I have purchased GenHead 3.0. How do I upgrade to GenHead 3.1?
Please contact support@genemation.com to obtain the latest version.
Do I need to uninstall GenHead 3.0 before installing GenHead 3.1?
No - you do not need to uninstall GenHead 3.0. However, it is not recommended that you install GenHead 3.1 to the same directory as GenHead 3.0 without uninstalling GenHead 3.0 first. In his case, it is recommended that you change the install directory when installing GenHead 3.1.
Can I run both GenHead 3.0 and GenHead 3.1 on my machine?
Yes, but not at the same time. When you install GenHead 3.1, change the installation directory so that it is diferent to the directory where GenHead 3.0 is installed. The GenHead 3.1 installer sets the value of the environment variable GENHEAD3_APP_DIR. To be able to run GenHead 3.0, you will need to manually change the value of this environment variable to point at the GenHead 3.0 directory. For help in doing this, please contact support@genemation.com.
What is the S.A.M ?
The Semi Automatic Markup is a wizard used within GenHead to quickly produce a 3-dimensional Head mesh from 1 or more photographs.
The process will take between 5 and 10 minutes (depending on user experience) and will produce a 90% completed head by simply placing
points on to particular areas of the source photograph.
The final 10% comes from the GenHead main application where tweaks are made to the head shape and texture until the user is satisfied
with the proposed output.
Can I adjust the number of polygons in the mesh?
Yes there are 4 difference sizes of mesh that the user can choose from 1k, 2k, 5k and 9k polygons.
All or a choice of meshes can be previewed and saved out from GenHead by using the Mesh panel.
The mesh panel can be accessed by pressing the meshes button on the view toolbar or via view->meshes from the menu.
Can I adjust the resolution of the exported texture maps?
Yes. Every texture for every mesh node can be resized for viewing and exporting, from a choice of sizes in the mesh panel.
Texture Sizes range from 128x64 to 2048x1024 pixels. Obviously the texture size can only be as high as the size of the source image.
The mesh panel can be accessed by pressing the meshes button on the view toolbar or via view->meshes from the menu.
Note: Increasing the texture size will use more resources on your system and effect system performance.
Can I specify an exact position for the face?
No.
Can I export NURBS or Patch models?
No. GenHead only exports polygonal mesh models with accompanying diffuse, bump and specular textures.
Can I use GenHead Models with my CNC or solid imager?
Yes, By exporting a GenHead model in OBJ format then converting it to STL format.
Are there any plans for hair generation?
No not at present.
Are there plans for a GenBody?
No not at present.
Are there plug-in versions for Max or Maya?
No. GenHead works a standalone application thereby allowing us to support a wider range of packages via importing & exporting.
We can export heads for use in the following applications:-
Autodesk 3D Studio Max (versions 6 and above).
Alias MAYA ( versions 6 and above).
Soft Image XSI.
Kaydara FBX.
Wavefront OBJ.
VRML.
Is there a way to automatically generate and export face models?
Yes our other product GenCrowd allows automated generation of synthetic heads. See more by clicking this link.
Can I use a sketch or drawing of a face with the S.A.M?
We would not recommend it as this is not the usage the application was intended for, which is photo realistic 3d head generation.
What types of Meshes are available for use in GenHead?
We export the following types of meshes: -
Autodesk 3D Studio Max (versions 6 and above).
Alias MAYA ( versions 6 and above).
Soft Image XSI.
Kaydara FBX.
Wavefront OBJ.
VRML.
Can I import my own meshes?
Yes it is possible to import your own mesh to use within GenHead.
Contact our team to discuss how we can tailor GenHead to meet your individual needs by clicking here.
Can i use a GenHead mesh with packages like Z-Brush?
Yes. Our meshes are optimized to be used with Sub-divisions surface making them completely compatible with packages such as Z-Brush and all major 3d design applications.
Can i animate the head?
Yes. Genhead exports all its meshes (except vrml) with an animation bone rig and which allows the head to be animated within the
most mainstream 3D animation packages.
Can I modify the head?
Yes, once a head is exported to you chosen 3D animation software you can change it in whichever way you require. The topology of
our mesh makes changing the head a straight forward process.
What about painting on to the skin texture?
A diffuse map is exported along with the Head mesh. This can then be painted using any standard art software.
If using source images greater than 5 Mega-Pixels, will the textures look better?
It will only make a limited difference, because in practice the texture results are usually limited by the size of the output texture, which is limited by the requirements of the application where the head is to be used (the amount of memory on a games console for instance).
Are there sample photos available?
There are sample images included in the evaluation package .
What machine specification does GenHead require ?
Windows System Requirements
Windows 2000/XP
2.0GHz P4 or equivalent
512MB RAM
250MB free hard disk space
Graphics Requirements
64MB RAM
OpenGL 1.3
I have moved my markup files and now they no longer load ?
If you open the .gmu in a text editor you will see a directory path. simply edit this path for the new markup file location.
